Contect C1 - Crystalline Growth Compound

Contec crystallising waterproofing compound is an intelligent, self-sealing waterproofing system that transforms porous concrete into a permanent, water-resistant barrier. The system provides a structural defence against water damage and steel reinforcement corrosion. When Contec crystallising waterproofing compound is combined with water and concrete, it reacts with the unhydrated cement particles to form millions of needle-like crystals. Over a period of weeks and months, these crystals grow, filling the naturally occurring pores and voids in concrete, and permanently blocking the pathways for water and waterborne contaminants.

Easy to apply in slurry form.

Contec C1 is a cementitious powder compound used to waterproof concrete. Contec C1 contains chemicals which react with concrete, forming a waterproofing crystalline structure within the pores of the concrete.

Common applications:

Ponds & Swimming Pools
Basement tanking
Retaining walls
Concrete construction joints

INTERNAL MEMBRANE

Add 5kg of Contec C1 per cubic meter of concrete. Due to the plasticising effect, reduce the water content of the mix to attain desired slump or workability.

SLURRY APPLICATION

Saturate concrete area with water. Mix Contec C1 to a workable consistency. Apply 2 coats with brush or soft broom. Allow 2 hours between coats.

REMEDIAL APPLICATION

Remove defective concrete and clean. Apply Contec PLUG to halt water flow. Mix Contec C1 to workable consistency. Apply 2 coats with brush or broom. Allow 2 hours between coats.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Wear rubber gloves and protective clothing. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid inhaling product dust.

FIRST AID

If poisoning occurs contact a doctor. If effected flush repeatedly with water and wash skin thoroughly.

APPLICATION

Prior to application, all cracks and joints are to be repaired and cleaned. Mix Contec C1 into a slurry consistency, 5 parts powder to 2 parts clean water. Using a concrete brush, apply an aggressive circular motion to coat the concrete. Allow the product to harden (approximately 3 hours)

SLURRY COVERAGE

0.8 kg per m2

CURING

Completed applications should be moist cured for 48 hours and protected from rain and light traffic for 12 hours. Heavy traffic should be avoided until the surface has hardened. Treated concrete surfaces should not be permanently exposed to liquids for 7 days. Finishes containing Portland cement may be applied over Contec C1 after 3 hours, but other paint and coating finishes should not be applied before 28 days.

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

Colour Grey
Texture Powder
Particle Size 40-150 microns
Bulk Density 1.4
PH (when mixed) 13
Rate of Penetration 2 mm per week

PRECAUTIONS

Do not apply when the surface temperature is below 5oC. Contec C1 in a slurry format has a high pH which necessitates protective clothing and eye wear. The product is not designed to be a decorative surface and will change the surface colour.
